The ultimate blacksmithing experience. Over three intense and deeply rewarding days you will forge a full medieval arming sword under the personal tuition of William Holland. This course covers every skill needed to take raw bar stock and transform it into a finished, working sword — forging, grinding, heat treatment and handle assembly. A deposit option is available.

We follow a 12th century arming sword pattern with time for personalisation of the cross guard and pommel. Materials are cut in advance and ready to go straight into the forge on day one. By the end of day three you will have produced something extraordinary — a working sword made entirely by your own hands.

The Day Step by Step

  1. Day 1: Forging the blade profile from bar stock
  2. Drawing out and tapering the distal
  3. Day 2: Grinding the fuller and bevels
  4. Refining the blade geometry
  5. Day 3: Heat treatment and tempering
  6. Fitting the cross guard and grip
  7. Pommel fitting and final finishing
