Viking Shield Making Class

The Viking shield was not just protection — it was craftsmanship. The iron boss at the centre, the rivets and edging, the handle bracket — all hand-forged by the smith who equipped the warrior. In this class you will forge the iron boss and metal fittings for a full-size Viking shield, combining blacksmithing with an insight into historical Norse metalwork.

This class covers both the blacksmithing elements (boss forming, rivets, brackets, edging) and includes a timber shield board for you to assemble your completed metalwork onto. You leave with a fully assembled Viking shield — historically accurate, fully functional and ready for display or re-enactment.
